The new face of
the "Western
Hero".

July 5th, 2007
Happy JULY! So a whole lot of all over the place with Miami then N.C. and
then St. Thomas and now back to home. I will get to stay and get some work
done until my next meeting in Iowa over ONE AMERICAN DREAMER.
It is a WW2 POW Xmas story. I'm very excited to see it written and produced.
We continue to hear good response from the GHOST TOWN screenings and
the merchandise at the park are selling like hotcakes! That is good. We are
going to enter a few festivals and such and will start getting ready to shop for
a world-wide distributor. Screeners are ready to go out and so I know we will
find a good home for the film. Enough time has passed and I can honestly say
I'm very proud of it. That being said I'm ready to sell it and move to the next
project. I'm waiting to hear about G.P.S. showings and also looking forward
to going back in front of the camera soon.
Before we leave the subject of GHOST TOWN I wanted to say that I'm very
proud of the fact that Tony Hornus, my fellow producer on the project got
some of our merchandise into the hands of our US troops in Iraq and I am
sending a few pictures. We may work towards a USO show over there so we'll
see.
I'm also sending a few pics from the vacation to St. Thomas. A beautiful view
outside the window and then some of the critters there. I did a lot of floating
on a raft bouncing in the blue waves. I HATE cold water and this was like one
big hottub! This is the island where Blackbeard and his pirates would come
chill after they plundered. I had rum cake and seafood that was awesome.
Snorkeling was great and I saw lots of aquatic life...see the small house on the
cliffs I think I might buy....yeah right.
Well I'm anxious to start in on the writing and I will have new updates soon
I'm sure. Pumpkins, beets and squash are growing at the Ft. Perry and I cut
the lawn after being gone a while and so things are getting back to normal.
Grilling and chilling and writing!
Take care until next time!

July 12th, 2007
I'm sipping the java at the Ft. Perry and putting the final touches on my
packing for Iowa. I'm being flown out there to meet with Don Tietz the man
who's bio book we are using as a reference for the script SILENT NIGHT aka
ONE AMERICAN DREAMER. It is a WW2 POW Xmas story. We are
meeting with film commissioners, business men, politicians and the media. We
will be doing some interviews and also taking a grand tour of the remaining
POW camp.
We are in talks with a producers rep company for Ghost Town and the
promotion at the park is in full swing. The screenings continue and
merchandise is selling right along. We tried to get into the Golden Boots
Awards which is a awards showcase for pioneer or western themed films. PS:
We tried Amy's mead that her hubby made and she brought to the premiere.
It was loved by all! Good stuff!
Trying to get the acting deals all lined up for this late summer and fall.
The pumpkins and squash are growing good and so I should have a little
harvest later this year. Well off to shower and get ready for the airport!
DJ
July 17th, 2007
Early morning at the Ft. Perry and I'm just getting ready to do some writing
on the WW2 script that I'm calling SILENT NIGHT. I also like GOODWILL
TO MEN as a title. It centers around Xmas in a German POW camp. The
change is that it is the Germans in the camp set deep in the corn fields of Iowa.
I traveled there this past weekend and met with Tom Wheeler of the film office
and so many great people. Politicians, econonmic development people, actual
guards from the camp, townsfolk etc...all want to see this great story brought
to the screen.
We toured the actual site (now an airport) and also scouted some possible
locations to shoot at. I was stunned when I arrived to find that the story was
all over the news. I did several interviews and the main push all weekend was
2 presidental canidates in town (Edwards and Hucklebee) and DJ Perry the
film producer from Lansing Michigan in town to research the POW camp for
an upcoming movie.
The whole experience was awesome and Don Tietz was a wonderful host. It is
funny to have all that crazy hype and then come home to Lansing and the
quiet. I enjoy it but I must say that poor Lansing (a town I love) needs to get
its act together. I sent a story and pics of our Ghost Town merchandise that
we sent overseas to Iraq and Afganistan thinking the idea that a Lansing
company doing this would warrant some attention for the 4th of July weekend
and ....NOPE!
The Lansing State Journal has the weakest Entertainment staff I know. I sent
pictures from the Oscar parties I've attended with great stars and thought
they might enjoy a taste of Hollywood. Lord knows they send Mike Hughes to
Hollywood for his crappy little stories and here I was offering an inside track.
I guess it is all good. Virginia, N.C., Iowa...other states are just more with it. I
do admire our politicians for getting Michigan incentives out there. Michigan
Vue magazine is also the best Michigan Entertainment publication and I
strongly recommend it to anyone out there.
I guess I have one last comment. Snakes in the garden! Poor snakes get the
bad rap. There are people out there who have their own agenda's and they try
like hell to undermine and get their own grubby little hands into places where
they don't belong. It is like the monkey who sticks his hand in the cookie jar to
steal what is within and cannot get their hand back out. So they get to go
around looking like an ass because they got caught with their hand stuck in
the cookie jar. We had one of these people on Ghost Town and I found
someone else with a hand stuck in a jar recently as well. People just need to
learn that you never get ahead my shorting someone else. You must do right
by others and it all comes around. Don't be a greedy gretchen! Just some
words to think about.
Well I'm off to write on the script SILENT NIGHT.
Best to all!
DJ
July 24th,2007
I'm drinking some wonderful coffee and updating you the readers on a few of
the going on's in the crazy life of DJ Perry. Thursday I'm going to travel to
Maggie Valley NC to talk with the publisher about the WILD MICHIGAN
book and to do some theatrical promotion on GHOST TOWN. I will go down
with Tony Hornus and Pappy who played Howard the Blacksmith. We also
intend to enter the Ashville Film Festival and the Hollywood Film Festival
and we'll see soon if we warrant anything with the Golden Boot Awards.
I've been helping get things ready for the BOOK OF RUTH movie. A new
script, new director and working with Ray on casting. We will see how that
all plays out. I also am working to lock the dates down on SHATTERED
GLORY for this fall. I also have been approached about another movie in
Texas in November and so I will see a script on that soon.
Pepper is about to launch the new section on the GHOST TOWN premiere
and I think everyone will enjoy the photos, reviews and the interviews.
My writing on the WW2 script SILENT NIGHT has hit the half way mark and
I'm VERY VERY happy with it so far. The characters and time period are so
rich and I've enjoyed the research that I've put into it. THE GOLDEN RULE
CHALLENGE by Lobdell is a great insight into day to day camp life and I
recommend it to any history buffs!
I also finished reading a book about the Union scout famous in the N.C. area.
We may explore making that into a film as well. Okay it is back to work for
me!
DJ
July 31st, 2007
I'm back at Ft. Perry drinking my hazelnut coffee and listening to some wake
up music. I got home around midnight from N.C. trip and couldn't sleep until
3am but then was up early to print some stuff for my brother. I said what the
hell and here I am. I might as well get an early start to the day.
I have scripts to read, scripts to write and many other things here and there to
do. I have several projects that are all weaving about and I'm waiting on
dates. THE BOOK OF RUTH project is in full swing and so I would love to act
in that as long as it doesn't step on SHATTERED GLORY. Last week I was
also approached about a Texas project and I like the sides I've read and I'll
read the script today or tomorrow.
I'm also considering helping Tony Hornus produce on a documentary that
I feel is worth while.
The trip down south was very good. Saw GHOST TOWN in the theater and
then talked with many fine folks after the showing. They ran it in the paper
that Tony H., Dave Papenfuss, who plays Howard the Blacksmith, was there
and myself. We also brought Alaska (Mrs Birdie), Jim Jumper (Apache Kid),
Ralphine Rathbone (Marion Burnett) and also had Larry, the Vice Chief of
the Eastern Band of Cherokee with his girlfriend Nuvette (Spelling??) and
they loved the film.
We also met over another movie project to be filmed in that area and it looks
like we might move forward to the next stage - financing. Yes. The dread of all
filmmakers!
We will continue to move forward and Nashville might get the next big
screening of GHOST TOWN.
It will be a busy week!

August 4th, 2007
It is a beautiful Saturday and I wanted to take a few minutes to update
everyone on a few subjects.
I want to announce that the film BOOK OF RUTH is a go and is in
pre-production. You will see me doing my best Chuck Heston! I really use to
love some of those old films so I'm honored to be producing and acting in this
film. I will play a character named HARZ that is a happy go lucky friend of
Boaz's. That is to shoot at the end of October and I'm excited to do this.
Following that I will be playing an action oriented character named GILL in a
great Civil War period film. I said before I would only climb back into the
wool for the right story. I think "WICKED SPRINGS" fans will see me playing
a very different character. It is called SHATTERED GLORY and I encourage
all of you to follow this great movie in the making.
I also signed a letter of interest on a very interesting film out of Texas called
"Anything For Now" so...
Crazy busy times lie ahead in front of the camera. We have some great
projects in development and I will hint with this.. talk has started around
hmm "JUDGES" maybe! I think people are finding that unique film and are
responding to it as well.
I may have some release news here soon for "GPS" and "MURDER at
HOLLOW's POINT" so stay plugged in. I will tell you I've heard
September 4th 2007 will be the release of "KNIGHT CHILLS" special
edition which among the extras includes a commentary with all three writers
(myself, Jeff & Junita Kennedy) about the trials of CDI's first feature. Not bad
for a $20,000 feature.
If I'm missing anything you'll hear from me soon. Just writing away on
SILENT NIGHT script!
Best,
DJ

It has been so muggy here in Michigan and I find myself longing
for the cool autumn season that I loved so much. A few little
updates for all of you out there. "FROM VENUS" is being
released with a collection of 50 DVD's with Brain Damage Films.
It is called: "Tomb of Terrors" and releases August 28th, 2007.
Also Brain Damage Films will release "KNIGHT CHILLS Special Edition"
September 4th, 2007 . Among the extras is a commentary with all 3 writers
(Jeff & Juanita Kennedy and myself) that was CDI's 1st feature done for a
whopping $20,000 so if you are an upstart filmmaker you might gleam a few
gems from the commentary.
"GHOST TOWN: The Movie" has just been accepted into it's first major film
festival. That is the Ashville Film Festival. I will get a link for information but
it will show in November, 2007. It will continue to screen in Maggie Valley at
the Eagle Nest through October.
Speaking of screenings:
G.P.S.
We have set several special engagement preview screenings in Seattle at
Central Cinema on August 31st through September 2nd. Please tell everyone
about the screenings! There will be screenings at 7:00PM and 9:30PM each
night (6 screenings total). You can find additional information on our website:

Lastly the "Wild Michigan" novel written by Dee Freeman and based upon
my screenplay has landed a book deal with Alexander Press. They are the
same publishing house that just released "Teaster" which I highly recommend.
Thank you again to all the friends and fans!
Sincerely,
DJ

The weather has gotten cooler and I'm happy about that. I can almost feel fall
in the air. The heat and insects I think have killed my one feeble pumpkin and
my yellow squash. Below is an email that I got from Paul Proios about the
G.P.S. theatrical sneak preview. Also is a special treat with a link to the GPS
theme song.

Have a beer, eat some food and watch a scary thriller on a giant big screen, in
sweet vintage couches ;)
Thank you Paul! I've been reading a couple of scripts, writing on a script
(Silent Night) and I've been taking meetings over "GHOST TOWN: The Movie"
and so far so good. I've talked with a few distributors this week and the
response from both after seeing the film has been strong. We are IN the
Ashville Film Festival and hope to get into this American Indian Festival and
Hollywood Film Festival. So many Hollywood friends want to see it so I hope
that it gets a showing there.
I'm still working my schedule and trying to help Ray with "Book of Ruth" all
of which starts rolling this October. I'm hearing a few things on the horror
film "Murder at Hollow's Pointe" which once they are solid I will announce.
There is also some developments underway with a JUDGES 2 and WILD
MICHIGAN.

August 21st, 2007
Welcome friends,
So it has been a busy week and a half getting "GHOST TOWN" screeners out
to various interested parties. So far we have had a positive excited response
from all the companies and I would expect offers to start soon.
We have been adding cast onto the "BOOK of RUTH" movie and that will be
exciting. "SHATTERED GLORY" is also gearing up and so yes I will be back
doing the ole Civil War epic again. This film is part "Cold Mt" and part
"Ride with the Devil" so hang on!
I've been in talks about a horror film next month but we'll see. I may just chill
before doing 3 films back to back. I'm in talks about several films next year. A
new poster for "The BOOK" is online at IMDB. "WICKED SPRING" plays on
UK TV again this month on Movies4Men so catch it.
Won a soccer match this past Sunday so that was good. Other then that I've
just been staying out of the rain and just typing on "Silent Night" which is
almost done.
More later!

It has been a crazy week and it ended up even more!
It started with my brother getting a job in Kalamazoo after getting his
certification in special edition. I'm proud of him and it was great having an
opportunity to live together for many years at Ft. Perry. I know he'll do great.
Also today they put our family dog Anna down after a she developed cancer.
She was there for 14 years and goes back to an earlier day when my parents
were not divorced and things were much happier. I will miss her very much. It
was always great to see her so excited at Christmas time and she would open
presents with her paws and teeth.
All my veggies at Ft. Perry also did poorly with the lack of water and then the
downpour. I did mange to get five, yes five snap peas.
OK onto better news.
Friday I picked up my new 2007 Nissan. I've had 4 of them previously and I
really like those cars. GREAT gas mileage and very dependable. It is silver
and black and should do the job of transportation nicely.
We will continue talks with the studios over "GHOST TOWN" and so far we
have had very good responses across the board. I'm curious to see what
this week will bring.
Ray and I have been getting ready for "Book of Ruth" and the new script
came in this week. Same with "SHATTERED GLORY" the new Civil War
movie
that I will be in this fall.
I'm also in talks over a Texas drama called "Anything For Now"
http://www.prweb.com/releases/2007/8/prweb548083.htm
The role I'm looking at playing in that film is really cool. Talking of cool! I
read the treatment for the new JUDGES film that we are in talks about
shooting in the spring 2008. I've also seen some mock up artwork but I cannot
release it yet because it features the leading lady that Walker would like to
add on. This next film will be JUDGES on High Octane. Much, much, much
more action!
I'm also in development with the CDI gang and fellow filmmakers I've worked
with on a whole slate of pictures. Tuesday is the release of TOMB OF
TERRORS (See amazon.com) and September 4th, 2007 is the Special Edition
release of KNIGHT CHILLS. Watch it once again with the new commentary
taking us back more then a decade.
"Wicked Spring" continues to play on UK TV (Movies4Men2) on the 30th of
August this month. I hope more of the films start to reach the UK as I've had
many great emails from UK fans. Thank you sincerely!
"Supermodel Showdown: Costa Rica" paperwork was signed off last week to
Anthem Pictures and they have all the tapes so we should see that series come
together. Joe Murphy was back in the states and it has been good catching up
with him.
More later. Thank you all again for your support!
Best,

I'm getting ready to take off for the weekend for some R&R. Yesterday I
finished the 1st draft of the WW2 POW script "Silent Night" and it has been
sent off for a first look. I'm very happy with the script and I think it reflects
some of my best work. I'm excited to see it come to the screen.
My brother Adam is returning to Ft. Perry. Things didn't work out exactly
how he wanted in Kalamazoo but that is the way with all things. I will be
happy to have baby bro back around! Me casa su casa...is that right?
"Book of Ruth" has a new script version and I think we are ready to go full
stream ahead. They are having a big press conference in Arkansas this
weekend which will include the signing of Christian singer Carmen onto the
project. We may have a few other exciting announcements soon. My beard is
getting long so I'll be ready. Watch out Chuck Heston!
I'm working on locking down the final details on "Shattered Glory" and
"Anything for Now" the Texas film. I see that "Wicked Spring" has more UK
showings. I may vacation in the UK at the years end. That might give me a
chance to meet with Steven Smith the director of "The Book" and also do
some work on "ACE" the WW1 pilot script.
"G.P.S. the Movie" is playing theatrically in Seattle this week. See
www.gpsthemovie.com for times and place. September 4th is "Knight Chills"
special edition and "Tombs of Terror" featuring "From Venus" released 2
days ago and is listed among the Top box sets on amazon.com
I've been having some good talks with the "8th Plague" folks and we might
have some exciting annoucements there soon. Same goes for "Judges 2" which
all I'll say is that it is active!
I'm waiting on some feedback for "Ghost Town" which now is at 3 major
studios. We will just have to see what happens here soon.
Have a safe weekend!

on the success of “The 8th Plague and go at it again. We just need the

It has been a wonderful fall beginning. Yesterday I had a good meeting over
apple cider and rum with Dennis Therrian. It is a great way to exchange ideas
I must say. Hot apple cider is right up there with coffee for me.
G.P.S. the movie (www.gpsthemovie.com) had a great theatrical start in
Seattle, Washington and now is moving into New Mexico! Here are the dates
I'm aware of so make it if you can.

We are continuing to field offers on "Ghost Town: The Movie" and the
screenings continue in Maggie Valley, NC.
We have been locking the final tweaks to the script on "Book of Ruth"
and the exciting news is that we have attached Stephen Patrick Walker
(Judges) onto the project. The Christian singer Carmen has signed on as Boaz
and we are in the final stages of attaching Dyan Cannon onto the picture as
well. My beard is in full effect and I'm getting my biblical groove on.
This week I should have more exact dates on "Shattered Glory" after their
location scouting this past weekend.
I'm working on my 2nd draft of "Silent Night" and I also did a few radio
interviews in Iowa for the project.
PS: I found a new close by wine shop and this weekend I'm starting my hard
cider!
DJ

SEPTEMBER 21st, 2007
The Autumn Equinox is upon us and so is my favorite time of year...fall! I've
been drinking a little cider and watching as the leaves slowly give way and
turn color. I'm having a new bathtub and unit put into Fort Perry on
Monday. I'm considering this shed I fould that is a touch smaller then what I
wanted but the price may be right. This weekend should be relaxing. I'm
doing my new script polish on "Silent Night" and I think it will really be
great. Did some radio PR in Iowa for it. We have a legal team coming on
board as well as the economic division there and the PW Board. We have
some really strong backing on this project.
The beard is in full effect and I think we have
our locked script on "Book of Ruth" so we
will be ready to roll on October 17th. I've
never been to Arkansas so I think it will be
fun. Dave Selle who shot "JUDGES" will be
joining Stephen Walker and I and so that will
be a nice reunion.
The scouting trip on "Shattered Glory" sounds like it went great and so soon
after "Ruth" I think we'll be over to GA for some rip roaring action. I should
also know if I will be doing "Anything For Now" a Texas indie that I think has
a lot of potential.
We've had two offers on "GHOST TOWN" and we are waiting on a few more
which may come in today. We will have to see. Things are really going great
and I'm very grateful that this has been such a great year.
Check www.youtube.com under MEN OF ACTION SPIKE TV and there are
two funny shorts featuring my buddy Taymour from "Tangy Guacamole,"
"GPS" (PLAYING IN New Mexico this week) and "GHOST TOWN"!!!

September 26th, 2007
Busy, busy! Here at the Fort Perry and I'm ready to attack the day. Yesterday
I was landlocked as contractors put in a new bath tub, shower surrounds and I
get a new floor later this week. It was old and needed replacing. I may deal
with getting a new lawn barn situation this week as well, we'll see.
I've finished the 2nd draft of the "SILENT NIGHT" script and it is now before
a few boards to review. We are bringing on board a legal team and so it is all
very exciting. Getting all the SAG paperwork in order for "Book of Ruth" and
Dyan Cannon is now officially on board. That starts shooting October 17th,
2007.
I've accepted another role in another scary film called "Dog" written by an
old acquaintance James Korlock. It shoots around the 5th or 6th and it is an
out there character. Put it this way, he freaks out the bad guys in the film. I
like that!:)
"Shattered Glory" has an official start date of January 16th to help with
scheduling of a few of the other stars plus there will be a few surprise cast
additions soon. Great project and to be honest I would rather be in GA in
January and February because Michigan winter gets harsh.
That leaves November/December open save this possible film in Texas that I'm
in talks over. Either way we have many projects in development and so I will
focus on all that as well. "The 8th Plague" has a special new release this
October 16th (See attachment-26a) and now TOMB OF TERRORS and
KNIGHT CHILLS and IN THE WOODS Special Editions are out for sale, go
Halloween scares!
More updates soon!
